Struggling with a Mid Century blue and gold dresser!

Well here we are again! Another dresser down and I will be going to the next one very soon!

This peice was definitely a challenge!  I feel like we had a love hate relationship through the process. :-)

This peice started out a yellow 60's color with cold tone handles. I loved the handles and the color, but what would go well with it? (We will get to that later)

This peice had some seperation at the bottom on the trim about half an inch. I thought no big deal, some Gorilla Glue and some clamps, we will be good to go! Hahaha (the evil laugh ensues)!

I'm still not sure how it seperated but the bottom trim peice was in its slots nice and snug. I had to cut it loose with a hand saw, to allow the trim to meet up in its proper place. I attached some blocks behind to ensure no movement will occur. Problem solved!

Now I come back to the paint. I had recently finished a peice that had blue drawers, gold handles and a white cabinet. So I grabbed the same paint and bought some, antique gold, paint to trim out the drawers. I topped it with a water based polly!  Volla, Perfect!

I hope that you enjoy the peice. If you have any questions please leave me comments below!

Green painted, Cottage Chic chest of drawers!

Hello once again!

I wanted to show you the evolution of this peice! I bought it off my good friend Bonnie, at Bonnie's Bargins, in Roanoke Va.

This peice was in very poor condition. Maybe a little more than I thought originally. The bottom trim was mostly gone. The whole peice was extremely wobbly. However for $15.00 for a wood chest of drawers, it wasn't to be passed up!

First I removed all the charming hardware. I did not do anything to them, just because they didn't need anything. They had all the right patina!

I then removed what trim was around the bottom.  I will be replacing it later.

I had to reglue some of the paneling on the sides due to seperation. I just took a business card with Gorilla Glue on the edges and rubbed it between the layers. I then took two boards and clamps, as I clamped them together.

For the bottom I purchased a popular board and cut it to fit. I allowed the width of the boards on side, so the front board would fit evenly across the front. This also  made the chest of drawers very sturdy! A win win!

Now the paint! I had a friend choose the color just to make it fun. It felt like a game challenge!  It was a fresh of breath air and fun. I would recommend if you are in a funk and need to mix it up!

Applying the paint always make sure to ruff up the wood so the paint sticks well. Your brush strokes should go with the grain of the wood as well in a straight line. I like to apply all my paint to a side and work my brush from one side all the way across to the other side. This give me nice neat lines!

I hope you got something out of this post. Please leave comments below! I really love feedback, good or bad!

Sewing machine base to dining table!

I picked up this sewing machine treadle off of a craigslist ad.

I was searching for one for a personal project I wanted for my appartment. I personally hate having anything that someone else may have!

I wanted to make a dining table that could seat four people. I already had a formica top table from a previous purchase. I thought they would merge lovely.

I also had just purchased a set of four Cosco folding chairs. Art deco style!

It was a marriage that was ment to be!

First I decided to paint the sewing treadle orange, by first priming it with a white. This would allow the orange to be nice and bright!

I then took the original legs off of the formica table. I wanted a mural painting, like the ones you see on the side of a building. So I decided on Orange Crush. (Made sense with the base!)

I used blue painters tape to draw my images on. Then i cut them out with a razor. (This will give you clean lines)

I topped it off with a satin clear.

I still want to cover the chairs with a fabric I have purchased for the job! I will publish photos once this is done.

Please leave comments below! I would love to know your thoughts!
